Brazilian Technology Developed to Track Deforestation in Rainforest

On January 17, 2013, Região Noroeste reported that new technology has been developed that can help detect the cutting down of even one tree in Brazil.  Researchers at Orbisat have produced radar technology that will be inserted into satellites and airplanes used to track changes in the rainforest.  The technology’s test run will be overseeing the construction of a hydroelectric plant, the Santo Antonio plant, along the Madeira River, seven kilometers from Porto Velho, the state capital of Rondônia.  It works hand-in-hand with the plant, which must pass a rigorous environmental test before it is approved to open.  Read Article
