Brazil steelmaker accused of contaminating river

Prosecutors say one of Brazil’s largest steelmakers is polluting a major source of water in Rio de Janeiro with coal residues.
The prosector’s office of Rio de Janeiro state says on its website that one of four landfills of the Companhia Siderurgica Nacional contains more than 500,000 tons of toxic residues that seep into the Paraiba do Sul River. The river supplies water to more than 12 million people in Rio de Janeiro state. Read Article
