Brazil: Rio de Janeiro, Salvador, and Belo Horizonte Report the Highest Number of Disappearance Cases

Globo reported on August 20, 2013 that the states of Salvador, Belo Horizonte, and Rio de Janeiro have the highest number of disappearance cases. In Salvador, 70 disappearance cases occur per month as 80% are solve through police investigations. Minas Gerais is second to Rio de Janeiro for missing cases of children and adolescents. The Civil Police report disappearances are related to sexual exploitation, domestic violence, and drug trafficking. For Rio de Janeiro, between January and May of this year, 2,655 people have gone missing. The police average 17 people go missing daily. Read Article
