Brazil: Research Finds 53% of São Paulo Residents as Victims of Crimes

On October 22, 2013, O Globo reported that more than one in every two residents of the city of São Paulo have been victims of a crime.  Of 3,000 respondents in a recent survey, 53.4% reported that they had been robbed, assaulted or threatened at gunpoint.  Even more striking is the number of crimes reported:  66% of victims did not report a robbery, and 80% did not report petty theft.  The yearly study has found that such rates represent a stabilization in the number of people victimized in the city in the past ten years.  Read Article
