Brazil: Police Seize 50,000 Packs of Contraband Cigarettes in Pará

On April 15, 2013, Diário do Pará reported that the Federal Highway Police (PRF) seized a large van in Santa Isabel, on BR-316, carrying some 50,000 packs of illegal cigarettes. The driver, 49 year-old Jonas Gomes de Souza, was not authorized to drive the van. He informed police that he was to receive around R$200 for safe delivery of the cargo. The owner of the vehicle was identified but not named, and he confessed to planning to sell the cigarettes at local fairs in Belém. Both men will face drug trafficking charges.  Read Article
