Brazil: Federal Police Eradicate 400,000 Marijuana Plants from Sertão

On April 29, 2013, Jornal do Comércio reported that police in the Brazilian northeast have eradicated close to 400,000 marijuana plants in the states of Pernambuco and Alagoas.  Federal Police conducted operations near twelve cities in Pernambuco, and two in Alagoas.  In all, the plants amounted to nearly 143 tons of potential marijuana.  Close to 70 federal agents participated in the operation, named Operation Rescue I (Operação Resgate I), and the operation took place between April 21 and 26.  Read Article
