Bogota remains vigilant in fight against leprosy

Every year in Colombia are diagnosed about 600 new cases of leprosy, which, while 5% are prescribed in the District, mostly from other cities. Multibacillary forms predominate in advanced stages of the disease and, in more than half the cases, patients have disabilities in the hands, eyes or feet, which are most frequently affected sites.

In the last ten years in the District have been diagnosed between 30 and 40 cases annually, most of them (80%) are from other departments and treated at the Dermatology Center Federico Lleras Acosta, National Referral Hospital for this event.

In Bogotá ensures that the target of 100% of cases of leprosy patients living in the city or from other regions. Access to treatment and other assistance as defined in the regulations are completely free for the patient. Read Article
