Ayacucho, Peru: Corrupt Police and Family Arrested for Trafficking Drugs to Brazil

From La Republica on July 1, 2013- Although his service record was impeccable, police officer, Efraín Rommel Mallaupoma Fernández was a seasoned criminal. Counterintelligence agents arrested Fernández for directing a drug ring that was sending cocaine from the Valley of the Rivers Ene, Apurímac, and Matntaro (Vraem) to Brazil. Authorities also arrested Virginia Lapa Pérez, the wife of the corrupt official, two brothers, and his brother in law. All were members of the same criminal group that regularly sent drugs from Arequipa, to Puno, to Bolivia, then onward to Brazil.  Read Article
