Attorney General Opens Investigation against ex-Mayor of São Luís, Maranhão, Brazil

On January 11, 2013, O Imparcial reported that Maranhão’s Attorney General, Regina Rocha, has opened a commission to investigate expenses made by the former Mayor of São Luís, João Castelo (PSDB). It marks the first action done by the Attorney General’s new task force, created to investigate possible improprieties in the public administration of São Luís. Rocha has already received requests from the District Attorney of São Luís, Marcos, Braid, as well as requests from two other local departments with information regarding payments and non-payments made. Rocha added that 2013 will be dedicated to combating administrative abuse in Maranhão.  Read Article
