City Councilman in Goiânia, Brazil, Arrested on Corruption Charges

On Feburary 15, 2013, Terra reported that police arrested a city councilman in Goiânia, capital of the state of Goiás, on corruption charges. Paulo Borges (PMDB) was arrested this morning and was charged with participating in a scheme in which the councilman traded kickbacks for project guarantees. The police operation was part of Operation Jeitinho, launched on January 11, aimed at dismantling the suspected scheme. He faces charges of gang activity, corruption, influence trafficking and graft.  Read Article
