Argentina to begin biometric identification program for all Argentines January 1, 2012

President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner announced yesterday that from 1 January next year all babies born in hospitals in the country not only be identified through fingerprints and toes, but also by the biometric system with photos of the face. In addition, he announced that in future the process will be mandatory for all citizens, and estimated that “within two years, the 40 million Argentines” will be recorded also by the new system.
