Anti-Drunk Driving Law in Brazil Leads to 13% Less Deaths

On February 14, 2013, O Estado de São Paulo reported that recent statistics published by the state of São Paulo’s Polícia Militar show a 13% drop in deaths caused by drunk driving during the Carnaval season. The amount of those injured also fell by 57%. The report gives credit to enhanced monitoring: the amount of people fined jumped 185%, and the amount arrested jumped 200%. Likewise, throughout the year, the numbers of those fined and and arrested have risen 22% and 200%, respectively.  Read Article
