Amazonas, Brazil: R$4 Million in Fines For Environmental Crimes

Globo reported on May 28, 2013 that in nine days, the Institute of Environmental Protection of the Amazonas will charge more than R$ 4 million fines for a mission designed to patrol and combat illegal logging in Amazonas. Violators found transporting three thousand pieces of wood were fined R$ 4.737. Other incidents of environmental crime included the confiscation of a red macaw and a dead tapir in which violators were charged R $5,000 in fine.Read Article
