Heavy Rains Continue to Affect All of Colombia

•New flood zones in municipalities in la Mojana Sucreña, Cauca, el Magdalena, and the Savannah of Bogotá have registered, and the director of Ideam states that they must decide between maintaining the infrastructures or relocating per elpais.com.co.
•Red alert is still on the Bogotá, Chicamocha, Sogamoso, Suárez, Arauca, and Meta rivers. May is expected to bring heavy rains despite the expected decrease of rain due to winter.
•Throughout the country, different areas have suffered floods, landslides, and road blockage due to the rains.
•They have also destroyed houses and lands used for agriculture.
•The rains have prevented farmers from transporting their crops such as in Popayán, Cauca.
•The National Police with 5,500 officers has been helping to attend to the dire situation in Cundinamarca.
•La Niña, expected to end in the middle of June, is the phenomenon responsible for the elevated effects of the rainy season. Read Article
