The Conclusion of Evictions in Carepa, Colombia

In regions of Urabá Antioquia such as Carepa and Chigorodó, there have been invasions of plots of land by various farm hands per elcolombiano.com. Authorities state that these land plots have been recovered and are secured. This Monday the operations concluded as there were 15 plots occupied by around 1,400 families prior to the evictions. The governor of Antioquia, Luis Alfredo Ramos Botero, asked his citizens not to be swayed by any groups that want to occupy the landplots. These operations of eviction have been declared completed in Carepa. He congratulated the armed forces for their work and stated that due to the large population grown in comparison with other areas of Colombia, new and better housing plans should be discussed. Twenty-Eight individuals are being detained by the government from Chigorodó and Apartadó for acts of violence. These invasions are believed to be the work of illegal armed groups. Read Article (JR)
