Ecuadorian soldier killed in clash with Colombians

Elcomercio.com reported that the Ministry of Defence confirmed that six people were killed and one was wounded during a clash reported this morning between the military and alleged Colombian rebel groups in Puerto Mestanza (Sucumbios). At a press conference, authorities c onfirmaron that one of the deceased ‘s Lt. Diego Maldonado, 28. In addition there are five dead belonging to alleged irregular group. The head of the Joint Command, Leonardo Barreiro, confirmed that two alleged guerrillas are “under the protection” of the Armed Forces and to be delivered to the competent authorities. Barreiro said the confrontation began about 05:30 today, Thursday August 8, 2013, and ended past 10:30 once Colombi Army to collaborate from their side of the border. Read Article
