Chile, police arrest two brothers cheating tourists in foreign exchange scam

You arrive after a long flight to Santiago and one of the first things on your list to do is exchange euros or dollars into Chilean currency. The guidebooks tell you to go to Paseo Ahumada y Moneda where many of the exchange houses are and a million people pass through the area daily. Two well dressed and polite men approach you on the street and tell you they can make a better deal for your exchange. It looks legitimate and they take you in an office. To facilitate the transaction faster they offer to take care of it for you, take your money and go into an office door. After a few minutes they don’t come back out and you knock, no answer. You then open the door and discover a passage to an exit outside the building. You have been scammed.

Police recently arrested two brothers stealing money from unsuspecting tourist using this very sam. It took a significant investigation to round them up and they are not aware of how large this band of thieves is. Read Article
