Up In Smoke: The Possible Demise Of Public Smoking In Chile

Smoking a cigarette at the Estadio Nacional or in a rock concert could soon be a thing of the past. The government plans to prohibit smoking in enclosed public areas, starting with sports stadiums and concerts, as part of its proposed reforms to the nation’s Tobacco Law. The new Undersecretary of Health, Jorge Diaz, announced on Tuesday that the law “will prohibit smoking in any place used collectively by the public.” This will include stadiums, movie theaters, hotels, theaters, gyms, airports, supermarkets, malls, restaurants, bars, night clubs and offices.
