Ecuador: Constitutional Court warns of opposition’s criticism in rejecting referendum on term limits

lainformacion.com reported the President of the Constitutional Court (CC) of Ecuador, Patricio Pazmiño, warned Monday that it is building “a great social fraud” by criticism of opposing the decision of the High Court reject holding a referendum to amend the Constitution in order to, among others, legalize the indefinite re-election.

“I want to warn the public of a great social fraud is being prepared, candidates, politicians and some media are repeating it to point out that the Constitutional Court has ruled against the referendum,” Pazmino said.

The judge explained that “it is false” because “The CC had no competence to pronounce on the popular consultation”. “We only had to define routes on which has to process a request for constitutional amendments,” clarified. Read Article
