Ecuador: Two Operations Prevent Shipment of More than 700 Kilos of Cocaine

Expreso reported that between last Thursday and Friday the Ecuadorian National Police and Navy conducted raids that prevented the shipment of more than 700 kilos of cocaine from the town of Tenguel, outside Guayaquil, to the United States. In the first raid, the seized drugs were hidden in banana boxes and plastic tanks with a combined weight of 241,604 grams of drugs. Meanwhile, authorities investigated the Alpusa fish packing plant and seized a ton of cocaine. The second raid was conducted by the Ecuadorian Navy and resulted in the arrest of 3 people and the seizure of 476,128 grams of cocaine. The detainees claimed that this was the first time they had performed this kind of trafficking. They had been paid $500 and rented their vehicle in Guayaquil. During the operation, shots were exchanged between the military and people in two boats who presumably were waiting to ship the seized drugs, who subsequently fled the scene. Read Article
