333 clandestine airstrips destroyed in Venezuela since 2007

On May 31, 2012, the Ministry of the Interior and Justice of Venezuela together with the National Armed Forces of Bolivia destroyed a clandestine airstrip that was used to traffick drugs in the Apure state. The government also claimed to have dismantled an additional 35 illegal runways along the border with Colombia, AVN reports. Since 2007, the total number of clandestine airstrips destroyed in Venezuela has reached 333. These runways were discovered throughout the country and serve as a way of transporting drugs to external locations. During the most recent operation, 11 airplanes, 16 stock centers, and 11 vehicles were seized near the Colombian border.
