2012, tragic year for Venezuela: more than 21,000 murders

Although there are no official numbers of violent deaths, an NGO argues that the rate is 73 deaths per 100 000 inhabitants. Venezuela recorded more than 21,000 murders in 2012 due to “a general increase” in crime in the country, which is among the most violent in Latin America, said Thursday the organization Venezuelan Observatory of Violence (OVV). “We can conservatively estimate that 2012 will end with 21,692 deceased victims of violence, to a rate of 73 deaths per 100,000 inhabitants,” said the report OVV in December 2012.
