On February 7, 2013, Terra reported that the Federal Highway Police (PRF) will deploy some 10,000 agents to keep an eye on the roads during the annual Carnaval celebration, in order to enforce Brazil’s new drinking and driving law, the Lei Seca.  Anyone stopped who refuses to take or fails the sobriety test at the spot will be arrested and fined approximately R$1,915 and lose their license.  In the first month of the law’s application, between December 2012 and January 2013, more than 3,000 people were cited under the law.  Highway police also strongly advise that people watch their speed on the major highways.  Read Article
