Yucatan beaches suffering from erosion

The state government is launching a new campaign against the erosion of beaches in the Yucatan Peninsula. Under the new program, the Urban Development and Environment Secretariat (Seduma), with the help of universities, plans to conduct tests in the sea and on land to determine the best way to transport sand to eroding beaches. Scientists say that beach erosion in the Yucatan Peninsula is largely due to higher sea levels and more frequent storms, which wash away sand. Read Article
