Volcano of Fire Guatemala erupts, thousands evacuated

Reuters reported The Fire in Guatemala volcano began spewing lava and ash on Thursday, forcing the evacuation of about 11,000 people from surrounding communities and the suspension of some flights, officials said.

The volcano, about 40 kilometers southwest of the capital, launched a column of lava 30 meters long from the crater for about 20 or 30 feet wide, said Sergio Cabanas, emergency response director of the National Coordinator for Disaster Reduction (Conrad). Read Article
