Violence in Maceió, Brazil, Leaves Four Youths Dead in 12 Hours

On April 12, 2013, TNH1 reported that four young people were killed in the northeastern city of Maceió, Alagoas, in the past twelve hours after a series of incidents. Among the victims were a 13 year-old who was killed while hanging out with friends in a local park. The violence marks an already rising murder rate this month in the Alagoan capital, and the state’s Public Security Ministry is taking measures to combat violence. After eight months of falling violence levels, the rate rose again in March, and policemen have been dispatched to the most dangerous neighborhoods.
