Vilcabamba Ecuador: Canadian Expatriate Murder Update

On February 20, 2013, Glenn Sanderse a Canadian real estate agent, was found murdered in Vilcabamba Ecuador. When his body was discovered, he apparently had been deceased for several days. Authorities indicated that his throat was slashed and he had been beaten.

Mr. Sanderse was the owner of realestate.com.ec, espacios ecuador, and casabonita realty. Mr Sanderse had been a resident of Vilcabamba for approximately three years. His real estate firm is located at:12-61 Calle Bolivar y Clodoveo Jaramillo

His body was discovered when his business partner Francisco Riofrío arrived at the office on Monday morning. Head of Police indicated they suspect the death happened sometime Sunday. His body was located in the back of the office. He had suffered five stab wounds, including one to the neck. We have received unconfirmed reports that a broken bottle may have been used in the assault. Other information indicates he had defensive wounds. 1. A man named Muhammad (Sic) with a dark complexion told a group of people that he was in Vilcabamba to kill two people. The man was not intoxicated at the time.

2. Muhammad contacted Glenn telling him he was there to purchase property.

3. An acquaintance of Glenn’s told him he believed Muhammad was dangerous. Glenn did not believe it and said the man was there to buy.

4. Two days after Glenn’s body was found, Muhammad disappeared. He never purchased the property he was talking about buying.

5. Muhammad was a suspect but was gone by the time police started looking into his activities.

6. Informer for this information stated he(she) believed that there were people who had issues with the victim and that it was a “hit” on him.
