Underprivileged youth in Argentina more likely to smoke

Posted on May 24, 2011 • Filed under: Argentina, Latin America Health, Social Issues

A recent study by the National Department of Health and the Clinic Hospital’s Global Survey on Smoking among Adolescents shows that underprivileged teenagers in their first 3 years of high school:
-Smoke more and are more likely to start smoking
-Are exposed to more secondhand smoke
-Have an easier time obtaining cigarettes than adolescents from families of higher economic standing
According to the story on misionesonline.net, new regulations like raising the price of cigarettes could help stem this problem.
