U.S. tourist raped Rio de Janeiro Brazil, two suspects arrested

On April 1, 2013, globo.com reported that a pair of men suspected of raping a foreign tourist were arrested on Saturday by local police. The two men are accused of having boarded a van in which the woman, 23, and her boyfriend were traveling the previous Saturday. Authorities indicated that the tourist are Americans (U.S.). The two then ordered the couple off the bus, holding them hostage and taking them to the neighborhood of São Gonçalo. The rape took place in the suspects’ vehicle en route to the neighborhood. The men took the couple’s credit cards, which they used at ATM’s in São Gonçalo and Niterói. Police are still searching for a potential third suspect. Read Article
