Tulcán Ecuador: $120,000 worth of cellphones seized at border with Colombia

elnorte.ec reported that so far in 2013, customs agents have seized $120,000 woth of unregistered cellphones at the Ecuador and Colombia border.

1. Cellphones had no documentation.
2. 50 percent of the seizures took place at the Rumichaca International Bridge.
3. Other unregistered cellphones entered through illegal passages along the border.
4. Calle Larga, Cerro Troya are tow of the illegal passages between the two countries where authorities have placed emphasis on controlling illegal contraband.
5. So far in 2013 authorities have also seized three million dollars worth of contraband such as clothing, cigarettes, liquor.
6. Telecommunication officials Ministers from Ecuador and Colombia signed a bilateral agreement which will put into place the blocking of lost or stolen cellphone from being able to be activated again.
