El Universal reports that Adrian, the first tropical storm of the hurricane season, has formed off of Mexico’s Pacific coast, approximately 500 kilometers south of Acapulco. It is moving in a northeasterly direction at seven kilometers per hour, with winds reaching 100 kilometers per hour. According to the National Meteorological Service (SMN), Tropical Storm Adrian could continue to intensify in the next 24 to 48 hours and develop into a hurricane later on Wednesday. Mexican authorities predict that the hurricane season this year will produce over 30 tropical cyclones, about half of which may impact Mexico in the form of tropical depression, storm or hurricane.
