Facebook Safety Check

This feature was created for people in emergency situations as a way to notify loved ones that they are safe.

So, how does it work? After a large emergency event, Facebook combs through its user base to find out who is in the affected area. Users who are near the emergency zone get a notification asking if they are safe.

The user can then mark that they are safe or be marked safe by a friend that they are with. Friends and family members of the user then receive a notification on their Facebook page letting them know that their loved one has been marked safe.
