A Tale of an Ecuadorian Night Watchman

It took me about a month to completely acclimate to my surroundings before I became aware of him. He comes “on shift” every night in my neighborhood at about 7:30 p.m. and stays all night . . . every night. He patrols the streets in my neighborhood and at every intersection, stops, checks, and if all is clear, blows his whistle and then stops to listen for a bit. If I listen closely, I can hear echoing whistles from north, south, east, and west. It has always allowed me to crawl into bed and fall asleep, feeling that all is right and safe in my portion of this world. Read Article
