Sao Paulo, Brazil: Federal Police Launch Operation Against Social Security Fraud

On September 26, 2013 Terra reported that the Federal Police in conjunction with other federal agencies, carried out Operation “Corredeira” in Sao Paulo, against a gang resposble for committing fraud to the National Institute of Social Security between 2006-2013. The gang has caused about R$4 million in loss and may be more than that considering the lack of proper calculations. The agency noticed suspicious activity after the increased number of applications for social security benefits. Although no one was arrested, police still seized several documents and flash drives.
