Rio de Janeiro, Brazil: Protests Occur During Welcome Ceremony for Pope Francisco

agenciabrasil.ebc.com.br reported on July 22, 2013 that the Military Police used tear gas in response to a demonstration outside the Guanabara Palace in Larangeiras where the welcome ceremony for Pope Francisco took place with President Dilma. Protesters included LGBT groups, students, trade unions, atheists, and agnostics with signs emphasizing government spending on World Youth Day as well as the disappearance of a man mistakenly identified as a drug dealer in the Rocinha favela.
