Puno Strike Continues, Roads Blocked

According to ElComercio.pe the miners in Puno have continued their strike against concessions in the region. Reportedly, the anti-mining strike is become more intense with roads blocked for 12 hours. The indigenous group, Aymara have blocked thirteen places within the 25-mile route between Desaguadero and Zepita. According to the ElComercio correspondent, Carlos Fernandez, located in Puno, eight Bolivian trucks carrying cable and iron were stopped along this route, as well as other private vehicles. There is concern that the roadblock will cause problems for travel from Peru to Bolivia. Late in the day, a military helicopter was planned to depart for Puno.Read Article
