Puno, Peru: Dialogue Between Officials, Miners Continue

According to ElComercio.pe talks between the Ministries of Energy and Mines, Agriculture and the Interior with the group of Aymara leaders continued on Saturday without resolution. Dialogue held on Friday included a proposal of concessions from both parties to end the mining strike. The Aymara leaders rejected the proposal, continuing the fight for the cancellation of all mining projects in the region. Talks were held in the headquarters of the Ministry of Energy and Mines located in Lima. Both Aymara leader Walter Aduviri and the Puno Congressman, Yonhy Lescano were present. An official says that both parties are looking for a resolution. The mining parties say they are looking for government consideration about the damage that is caused by mining. Mining leaders are asking for the presence of President Alan Garcia in the negotiations. Officials say talks will begin Monday, June 20 at 10 in the morning.Read Article
