President of Ecuador hires firm to monitor social networks

A10 months before the next elections, the government and prepares a massive publicity campaign and monitoring social networks and the Internet. In March, the President signed a contract with Mercantile Advertising Merpubli to develop a marketing strategy to cope in social networking spaces, sending emails, search engine optimization, Google, and monitoring networks Facebook and Twitter. The contract with the firm amounted to USD 214 225. From April to December this year, Merpubli Commercial Advertising will develop communication tools and software that enable “social communication to implement a policy aimed at informing and disseminating appropriate events, activities and actions of government,” as stated in a memorandum submitted, on 19 March, the National Communication to the secretary general of the presidency, Maria Luisa Donoso.
