Police in Campo Grande, Brazil Investigate Potential Corruption in Hospitals

On March 19, 2013, Terra reported that police in the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso do Sul are currently investigating a string of suspicious payments made for services in hospitals in the state capital, Campo Grande.  Local courts have already ordered the removal of several members of one hospital’s board for improper use of authority to direct money and favors to the hospital from local businesses.  An investigation done one year ago revealed a scheme involving members of one public hospital’s board in which the hospital was overbidding different companies to contract services, companies which were connected to members of the board.  No one has been arrested yet, but investigations continue.  Read Article
