Piura, Peru: Human Trafficking Increasing Along Peru-Ecuador Border

On July 18, 2013 La República Noticias reported that the Consul General of Ecuador in Piura, Patricio Rodríguez Pérez, lamented that the border zone between Peru and Ecuador is being increasingly used as a corridor for human trafficking, particularly for exploitation in the sex trade.

In addition, the consul considered that in the absence of specific figures of this crime, there should be tighter controls along the border. This includes preventing a third party person from transporting a minor across the border without documents and without authorization of the minor’s parents or guardian. Read Article
