Piura, Peru: Call to Reopen Child Trafficking Case Against Teacher

On June 27, 2013 RPP Noticias reported that legal counsel for the Piura Anticorruption Front, Edgar Mendoza Chang, has called for the reopening of a human trafficking case against a schoolteacher working in the Rural Education Program at the Fe y Alegría School. Mendoza Chang described as incredible the fact that Prosecutor Ana Cánova Loro has closed the case against the teacher.

The teacher was accused of attempting to kidnap three children in order to take nude photos of them. The alleged incident occurred on the outskirts of the village of Miraflores, in the district of Tambogrande. Following the incident, the mother of the children, Esmeralda Ato Jiménez, asked the Provincial Prosecutor from Sullana to provide protective measures for her children.
