Piura, Peru: 80 Officials Given Training in Combatting Human Trafficking

On June 21, 2013 RPP Noticias reported that the Regional Commission for Combatting Trafficking and Smuggling in Persons has recently provided training to more than 80 officials in the conceptual and statistical aspects of human trafficking as well as a delineation of functions, in accordance with the National Plan of Action Against Trafficking in Persons. The newly trained officials include members of the Public Ministry, Attorney General’s Office, Women’s Emergency Center, as well as Piura transportation inspectors, among other officials.

So far this year, 16 cases of trafficking have been registered in the judicial district of Piura alone.
The main causes of human trafficking in the Piura region are labor and sexual exploitation, with the towns of Piura, Sechura, Paita and Talara being the locations with the highest incidence. Read Article
