According to Andina.com.pe from January to May the Colca Valley in Arequipa had received 1,774 more tourists than the same period in 2010. Miguel Velazquez Condori, manager of the Autonomous Authority of Colca says that the months of April and May register the most tourists. Velazquez is expecting to register 1,400 to 1,500 tourists a day during the high season. The strike in Puno may affect tourist travels since they usually follow the route Lima – Cusco – Puno – Arequipa. Velazquez is hoping that in 2011 200,000 visitors would have passed in the Colca Valley. This would be an increase from the 170,000 visitors in 2010.Read Article
