Peru, Ministry of Tourism Proposed

According to ElComercio.pe the National Chamber of Tourism, Canatur, will present President-elect Ollanta Humala with a tourism development plan for the next five years. The plan has three proposals: creation of a ministry of tourism, creating ‘noramazonico’ and central Peruvian tourism circuits, and a state investment of $5 billion for tourism projects. Carlos Canales, director of Canatur says that if the plan’s investment happens, businesses will be able to take advantage of the opportunities that will appear. Canales proposes that Peru look to Brazil for their main source of tourists. During Humala’s campaign a national airline was proposed that Canales urges the State to subsidize interregional flights. These flights are not profitable today, says Canales. Data shows that national passenger traffic is growing in Peru. Cusco, Arequipa, Iquitos, and Piura were the cities with the most traffic.Read Article
