Peru looks to increase exports through borders with neighbor countries

Peru has, according to information provided by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a total of 18 border crossings with Ecuador, Colombia, Brazil, Bolivia and Chile (see graphics). Of these, ten are fully qualified and the rest waiting for the budget and, in some cases, agreements with neighboring countries for its full operation. “It’s not an issue as simple as it sounds, because not only depends on the willingness of Peru, but from other countries,” says Ambassador Felix Antonio Denegri, director of Border Integration Development of the Peruvian Foreign Ministry. These binational agreements mentioned by the Ambassador Denegri refer to the fact that to speed customs clearance, Peru with its neighbors to determine if this infrastructure will have one or two checkpoints, in which part of the border will be located and if this border crossing will have a joint administration, giving rise to a Binational Center Border Service (CEBAF).
