Peru: investigation reveals that 14 of 17 schools along border with Ecuador, closed

Some 14 of 17 schools visited in the districts of Matapalo and Papayal Tumbes, on the border with Ecuador, the doors were closed and no information about the start of the registration process, informed the Ombudsman. Chiroque Abel, head of the Advocacy Office at Tumbes, said prioritized monitoring remote areas in order to ensure the right to free education, avoid undue charging conditions and during enrollment. “However, through visits it was observed that most of the schools were closed,” he said.
