Peru, new human trafficking routes

According to inforegion.pe, human trafficking in Peru continues to be a pernicious issue in society. Here are a few points on the current condition of human trafficking in Peru.

1. Traffickers are locating and using new routes to traffick their human cargo.
2. Previous methods involved moving young rural youth from the country to urban areas.
3. However, some of the trafficking is now occuring within the same area of kidnapping where the victim may be transported and obliged to work in areas closer to their place of origen.
4. The primary purpose of traffickers are for sexual and labor exploiting. Some victims are forced to work in the informal mining sector.
5. Significant areas of trafficking are in the following departments: Lorety, Cusco, madre de Dios and Moquegua.
6. Many of the victims are promised good jobs and have not done a thorough job of investigating the employer.
7. Social services working with this phenomena are encouranging more people to communicate the risks and to be on guard.
8. In the jungle of Peru many young men and women are captured by terrorists and drug traffickers to engage in the trafficking of drugs.
