Peru-Bolivia Border Reopened

Ecuadorenvivo.com reports that the Desaguadero border crossing, which is the main border crossing between Peru and Bolivia, was reopened today after 42 days of protests and blocking. Police say that everything is back to normal in the area, however there are long lines of vehicles delivering products from Bolivia to Peru. The Puno Chamber of Commerce meets today, Monday June 27th, to discuss the impact of the strike by miners in the region. The Chamber reported last Friday that the preliminary assessment is $100 million loss and that tourism in the region, mostly to Lake Titicaca, declined from 1,000 to 100 visitors per day.
