Peru: Authorities Seize 73 Kilos of Cocaine Hidden Tires

From Diario Correo on June 24, 2013- Agents of the Regional Intelligence Group (GIR) seized 73 kilos of coca paste during an operation at a checkpoint on the highway that connects Huanta to Guamanga. A truck caught the attention of police after the driver stopped upon seeing the authorities. When the police questioned the driver, Walter Ñañacchuari Yuri Antonio Conde, he became nervous and started speaking in contradictions. Eventually he admitted to smuggling drugs in the tires of the vehicle. During this time, the driver’s cell phone rang repeatedly. Calls were coming from Huaman Franklin Perez, also known as “Colocho,” who was expecting the merchandize in Huanta. Police then tracked down Perez and arrested him as well. Authorities found 73.8 kilos of cocaine in 12 packets spread amongst the six tires of the truck. Read Article
