Peru: 16,000 thousand seahorses seized, destined to be smuggled to Asia

Elmundo.es reported that the Environmental Protection Division of the Peru Police have seized 16,260 seahorses in Lima, where they were found by officers on the street, boxed. The shipment of animals was abandoned by smugglers when they realized that they had been discovered. The head of that division, Colonel Victor Fernandez said Thursday that apparently horses from the north of Peru, were to be sent to Asian countries such as South Korea, Japan and China, where they are used as an ingredient for aphrodisiac drinks.
